Everything You Need To Know About The Weather In Newquay
There are few places in the world I’d rather be than Newquay, when the weather is good, that is. With good weather comes stunning views, golden sandy beaches and hundreds of awesome outdoor attractions.
The problem is of course Cornwall’s infamously indifferent weather conditions, which make it difficult to plan a trip to Newquay. We’ve combined data from holidayweather.com plus decades of local knowledge and experience to put together the ultimate guide to Newquay’s year round weather.

Arpil
Average Temperature: 11
Average Rainfall Days: 20
Average Daily Sunshine Hours: 7
Average Sea Temperature: 10°C
Local Insight:
The average high of 11°C really doesn’t tell the full story here. April 2015 has bought over 3 weeks of nearly constant sunshine and regular highs of above 20°C. April is famous amongst locals for bringing above average weather and glorious sunshine. In fact, April brings the joint lowest rainfall in terms of quantity, with just 60mm across the month on average. Whilst the sea is meant to be at its coldest, the warm weather outside allows many to take advantage of the awesome surf Newquay has to offer.
May
Average Temperature: 14°C
Average Rainfall Days: 18
Average Daily Sunshine Hours: 10
Average Sea Temperature: 12°C
Local Insight:
May is often one of the best months to visit Newquay, with the least amount of rain. With 2 bank holiday weekends, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy a long weekend. In between the bank holidays, Newquay is usually pretty quiet, so it’s a fantastic month to get the both good weather and the beaches to yourself.
June
Average Temperature: 16°C

Average Daily Sunshine Hours: 12
Average Sea Temperature: 14°C
Local Insight:
The month before the school holidays, Cornwall is still relatively quiet but the weather is usually at its absolute best. The days are long, the temperature and the water is warm and despite the stats showing 19 days of rain, there is usually little rain to spoil the show.
July
Average Temperature: 19°C
Average Rainfall Days: 20
Average Daily Sunshine Hours: 13
Average Sea Temperature: 16°C
Local Insight:
July’s weather looks fantastic on paper, but don’t be fooled into thinking that you’re safe by choosing to visit in July. Whilst temperatures are often high and there is plenty of sunshine to go round, we often get the odd week or two of rain to kick off the school holidays.
August
Average Temperature: 19°C

Local Insight:
Ask any local about the weather in August and they’ll tell you that you can expect rain all month long. The sea and the temperature are often at their warmest for the year, but historically we’ve had to put up with very wet conditions in August. August is bound to bring a week or two of sunshine, so our advice is to keep an eye on the forecast and book late.
September

Average Rainfall Days: 19
Average Daily Sunshine Hours: 8
Average Sea Temperature: 17°C

Newquay practically empties and many hotels close for the season. If you’re looking for a quiet and cheap weekend away, keep an eye on the forecast and the beginning of October could be a gem. But booking in advance for the end of October is a big gamble.
